Product overview
The TNG1005 Brush or Sponge Pilling Tester is designed to assess the pilling resistance of knitted and woven fabrics used in apparel and automotive interiors. The instrument operates by brushing and/or sponging specimens in a circular motion, which simulates the mechanical action of normal wear. This process forms pills on the fabric surface, allowing for the evaluation of pilling propensity. The test is conducted under standard lighting conditions using a pilling assessment viewer, light cabinet, or similar equipment. The results are compared against standard fabrics or pilling photographs provided by the user. The TNG1005 complies with ASTM D3511. The instrument features a circular sample holder with six holders, including polyurethane foam, rubber rings, and sandpaper. The rotation speed is 58 revolutions per minute. The dimensions of the TNG1005 are 1220 mm in length, 560 mm in width, and 620 mm in height. It operates on a power supply of 220/110 V at 50/60 Hz.
Application
Brush or Sponge Pilling Tester, to determine the pilling propensity and simulate normal wear of knitted and woven fabrics used in apparel and automotive interiors by brush and/or sponging specimens together in a circular motion to form pills. Specimens are evaluated under standard lighting conditions using a pilling assessment viewer, light cabinet or similar, against users’ standard fabrics or pilling photographs.
A set of 8 standard (made in USA) brush is included.

Test method notes
Work Principle This instrument uses a circular friction motion, pilling and other changes in surface appearance, such as fuzzing, which occur in normal wear are simulated on laboratory testing machines. Instrument Characteristics The brush pilling tester is designed to test the pilling or pilling properties of fabrics under simulated and normal use conditions, including woven fabrics and knitted fabrics, as well as fabrics for automotive interior decoration. Pilling instrument has two kinds of sample fixed chuck, each kind of chuck can support 6 samples to be tested. The standard square sample chuck has a square metal base with a fixture to hold the sample. In addition, an additional round sample fixing clamp is provided, which has a round base covered with a sponge body with an O-ring to fix the sample.
