Product overview

The TNG1004 Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester is designed to evaluate the abrasion resistance of textile materials. The instrument operates by fixing the sample fabric on a standard abrasive or wire mesh and rubbing it against a curved surface in a forward and backward motion for a defined period. This motion simulates real-world abrasion conditions. The tester includes four testing stations, allowing for simultaneous testing of multiple samples. The oscillatory frequency is set at 90 CPM, and the oscillatory arc is 76 mm. The tension on the sample can be adjusted up to 4 lbf (17.8N), while the load on the sample can be adjusted up to 3 lbf (13.4N). The device is compatible with the ASTM D4157 standard. It comes with four rubber pads, one wire mesh screen, and a vacuum cleaner. Additional rubber pads and wire mesh screens are available in packs of 8 and 4, respectively. The electronic digital counter allows for precise control of the number of cycles. The protective cover enhances safety during operation.

Application

Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester is a handy instrument for testing the Wyzenbeek abrasion resistance. In the testing, according to the Wyzenbeek abrasion test method, fix the sample fabrics on a standard abrasive or a wire mesh. Then it rubs on a curved surface in a forward and backward motion for a defined period of time. The Wyzenbeek abrasion tester is available for fabric manufacturers in the automotive and furniture industry.

Wyzenbeek abrasion tester consists of 4 abrasion heads and an electronic digital counter to control the number of cycles. Besides, it is in accordance with the standard ASTM D4157. If you are searching for information about ASTMD4157 pdf, you can click here.

Features

Easy to control due to the precision electronic digital counter.

The protective cover provides protection and thus more safety.

Four abrasion heads to test samples simultaneously, thus greater efficiency.

  • The definition of Wyzenbeek
  • The double rub is a way to measure the abrasion resistance and durability of fabrics, one of which refers to back-and-forth motion. The vast majority of fabrics require double rub testing to facilitate the determination of which fabric is suitable for a specific application. Double rubs are determined by an automated test known as the Wyzenbeek Test, also named the Wyzenbeek Method.
  • Wyzenbeek vs Martindale
  • In North America, the Wyzenbeek Method is the standard measure of a fabric’s abrasive resistance. A stiff cotton cloth is laid over a machine and rubbed all over a fabric sample. The rubbing from sitting on a seat cushion is what the test attempts to replicate. Each backward and forward motion makes up one rub. The test needs to stop when the fabric shows visible wear, two yarn breaks, or 15,000 double rubs, which is regarded as overintense for domestic purposes.
  • The Martindale Method for fabric abrasion tests is widely available in Europe and Asia. It is well-known that this method is more accurate than the Wyzenbeek. Laying the fabric sample flat then stroke in an adapted figure-eight movement against a piece of smooth woolen cloth. Finally, count the number of cycles the fabric endures before revealing some signs of wear.
  • The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) acknowledges and accepts these two abrasion test methods.
