Product overview

The TNG1017 Elmendorf Tear Tester is designed to assess the tear strength of textile materials according to specified standards. The instrument operates by using a pendulum mechanism that swings down to apply force to a pre-cut sample, simulating the tearing process. The test measures the energy required to tear the fabric, which is then converted into a force value. The device is suitable for testing woven and knitted fabrics, as well as other textile materials. It supports the following standards: ASTM D1424, ISO 13937-1, ISO 4674-2, and GB/T 3917.1. The tester features a sample size of 100×75mm and includes a sample cutter for preparing test specimens. The load range is 8N, 16N, 32N, 64N, and 128N, with a testing accuracy of ≤±0.2%F·S. The tear length is 43mm, and the automatic incision length is 20±0.2mm. The instrument has dimensions of 580 mm in length, 420 mm in width, and 600 mm in height. It is powered by 220/110 V at 50/60 Hz. The TNG1017 Elmendorf Tear Tester is a reliable tool for quality control and research in textile manufacturing.

Description

The innovative design uses a balanced pendulum plate. It achieves a higher level of tear testing accuracy.

The pendulum arm of the ElmenGuide Elmendorf Tear Tester is specially designed. The center of gravity of the entire arm lines up with the rotation center when no weights are attached. This brings higher accuracy and reliability of the tear resistance test equipment.

Smart instrument

You can connect the Elmendorf Tear Tester to a smartphone. This allows you to remotely control and monitor tests. You can get the tear resistance test results directly and print them. You can also get equipment warning reminders. Additionally, it achieves one-click sharing of the testing status.

Automatic recognition of weights.

The Tearing Resistance Tester can recognize the weight attached. It adjusts to the right range.

Humanized design is for more safety.

The Elmendorf Tearing Tester has a double-button switch design. It prevents accidents and is easier for testing operators to use.

Precise manufacturing and stable operation.

This Elmendorf Tear Tester’s fixture rotates. It loses very few empty pendulums.

Many measurement units (N, cN, gf, lbf) to choose from.

Technical description

  • ASTM D1424, BS ISO 13937-1, GB/T 3917.1, ISO 4674-2
  • Length: 580 mm
  • Width: 420 mm
  • Height: 600 mm
  • Elmendorf Tearing Test belongs to the pendulum test method, which is to test the tear resistance of the fabric, and in the normal fabric test, we also need to do a fabric strength test or the fabric tensile test, then we often use SmartPull Tensile Tester.
  • Principle of Elmendorf Tear Tester
  • The weight is lifted to a certain height, giving it potential energy. The dynamic and fixed grippers align, clamp the specimen, and the cutter cuts a mouth in its middle. The hammer is swinging down freely. The dynamic and fixed grippers separate fast. The specimen is torn by the energy stored in the pendulum itself. The control system gets the remaining potential energy of the pendulum after the specimen is torn. It calculates the energy used to tear the specimen to find the force needed to tear it.
  • More about Elmendorf Tear Tests
  • After wearing, friction thins the yarn. Then, the force breaks the yarn, forming a crack. Fabric tears when a concentrated load acts on it. This tearing is a phenomenon. The fabric’s tearing strength, or Elmendorf tear strength, is important. It is an indicator of the textile. The instrument used to find this index is a fabric-tearing tester. It is more widely known as the Elmendorf Tear Tester.

Working principle

The weight is lifted to a certain height, giving it potential energy. It calculates the energy used to tear the specimen to find the force needed to tea

Test method notes

What is the Tear of Fabric? Elmendorf tear definition refers to the phenomenon that yarn inside the fabric breaks one by one and tears the fabric into a crack when a part of the fabric edge is subjected to concentrated loading. The Elmendorf tear strength of textiles is affected not only by the fabric's properties but also by every finishing process of fiber. According to the actual development requirements of textiles, the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) has formulated a series of textile tearing strength standards (ASTM D1709, ASTM D1938, ASTM D1004 PDF, ASTM D1922 PDF, ISO 6388-2 PDF), and ISO followed these standards. The tear usually occurs in the process of using military uniforms, sails, tents, umbrellas, hammocks, and so on, and tear strength is the most remarkable ability to resist tearing during the use of fabric.
